uva footballUVA football recruit Jowon Briggs (6’2”, 295, Cincinnati, Ohio) is on the roster for the Pro Football Hall of Fame World Bowl, which will be played on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Azul Stadium in Mexico City.

Briggs, a four-star defensive tackle, committed to Virginia in June, from among offers including Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan, among 17 formal offers.

Rivals ranks Briggs as its 60th-best recruit in the Class of 2019, and has him as the #3 defensive tackle nationally.

Briggs is a centerpiece of coach Bronco Mendenhall’s 2019 recruiting class, which Rivals currently ranks fourth in the ACC and 30th nationally.

“To be named among the top players in the world and deserving of this special invite recognizes each player’s special playmaking ability and talent,” said Gary Howard, a nationally-known recruiting guru who headed up the selection team for the World Bowl that included a mix of scouts, Hall of Famers and former NFL executives.

The coaching and scouting staffs for the game will include NFL Hall of Famer Rod Woodson, former NFL GM Ray Farmer, and former NFL stars Tory Holt, London Fletcher and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

CBS Sports Network will air the World Bowl Presented by Xenith on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m.
