Reports: Spike TV cancels TNA Impact Wrestling

Contributors

tnaTMZ is reporting today that Spike TV has informed TNA Wrestling that it will not renew its contract to broadcast the company’s flagship Impact Wrestling TV show.

TNA President Dixie Carter reportedly tried to pass the move off to employees as having been initiated by TNA itself due to lack of promotion of Impact Wrestling by Spike TV. But the TMZ report has it the other way around, with Spike TV making the final call.

This comes on the heels of news that Impact Wresling had just enjoyed its biggest audience in months with this week’s Impact broadcast, with more than 1.4 million viewers tuning in.

The TMZ report cast the cancellation as not being acrimonious at all, saying Spike TV officials gave TNA early notice to allow the wrestling company as much time as possible to try to find a new TV partner.

TNA had apparently been shopping its product around already due to the contract with Spike TV coming up in October, with no success to this point.

There is no word on how much longer Spike TV will continue airing Impact Wrestling, whether that relationship will continue to the end of the contract in October or end sooner.
