Charlottesville Reading Series announces authors, poets for September event

Charlottesville Reading SeriesThe Charlottesville Reading Series will host a poetry and prose reading on Friday, September 21, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Dominion Bookshop (404 East Main St).

The event will feature in-person readings by novelist Crystal Hana Kim and poet Kyle Dargan. The event is free to attend, and complimentary refreshments will be available at intermission.

Crystal Hana Kim holds an MFA in creative writing from Columbia University and an MS in education from Hunter College. She has received numerous awards, including PEN America’s Story Prize for Emerging Writers, along with fellowships and support from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She is currently the director of writing instruction for Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America and a contributing editor at Apogee Journal. She currently lives in New York, where she was born and raised. Her debut novel, If You Leave Me, tells the story of war, family, and forbidden love—the unforgettable saga of two ill-fated lovers in Korea and the heartbreaking choices they’re forced to make in the years surrounding the civil war that still haunts us today. For more details, visit crystalhanakim.com.

Kyle Dargan is a graduate of UVA’s Area Program in Poetry Writing (APPW) and the author of five poetry collections, including the forthcoming poetry collection Anagnorisis(TriQuarterly/Northwestern UP, 2018). For his work, he has received the Cave Canem Poetry Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. His books have also been finalists for the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award and the Eric Hoffer Awards Grand Prize. Dargan has partnered with the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities to produce poetry programming at the White House and Library of Congress.
