#8 UVA basketball hosts Norfolk State in home opener on Sunday

The game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, streamed online on ESPN3.com and broadcast on the Virginia Sports Radio Network. Live statistics will be located on VirginiaSports.com, as well as the Virginia Sports app, which is available free of charge through iTunes.

Single-game tickets for the Virginia-Norfolk State contest may be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com/tickets or through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office by telephone and in person. Virginia-Norfolk State Series

Virginia sports a 3-0 all-time mark against Norfolk State in the series that dates back to 2010-11. The Cavaliers defeated Norfolk State 66-56 last season and also recorded wins against the Spartans in the 2010-11 (50-49) and 2012-13 (67-56 in the NIT) seasons.

UVa is ranked No. 9/8 in the Associated Press and USA Today preseason coaches’ polls. The No. 9 AP preseason ranking is UVa’s best since a No. 1 ranking to start the 1982-83 season. Virginia has been ranked in the preseason rankings in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2000-01 and 2001-02. UVa’s No. 3 final AP ranking last season marked its highest final ranking since 1982.
