Washington outlasts Yankees in extras, 5-4

nationals_logoA Michael Taylor homer tied the game in the eighth, and a Denard Span infield single scored the go-ahead run in the 11th in a 5-4 Washington win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nats trailed 4-2 with two outs in the eighth when Taylor homered to right off Yankees reliever Jacob Lindgren for his fifth home run of the season.

Span’s RBI single also came with two outs in the 11th off New York reliever Chris Capuano (0-4).

Drew Storen closed out the win with a 1-2-3 11th for his 19th save. Blake Treinen (2-2) earned the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.

Washington starter Gio Gonzalez went six and a third innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking three.

Danny Espinosa was 3-for-5 on the day with a double and a solo homer, his eighth of the season.
