River City Radio Hour ends seventh season
One of the Valley’s longest running productions completes its seventh season on June 20 when the River City Radio Hour takes it final bow at WTA’s Gateway. The 7:30pm performance will feature the Boogie Kings, comedian Marsha Howard, a new musical group Trilogy, and musician Lawton Tufts. Also on the schedule is another of Richard Adams’ Adventures of the Basic City Boys. “We plan to go out with a bang,” said Clair Myers, producer of the Radio Hour.
The Radio Hour was the brain child of Richard Adams and Myers who came up with the format when the Waynesboro Cultural Commission wanted a platform to bring new talent and a new audience to downtown Waynesboro. “Since our first night in October 2006,” said Myers, “we’ve gone from two one-hour performances to a full two-hour production with more guest musicians and greater variety of styles.”
The June 21 performance will be a case in point. Besides the talents of William Hayes and J. T. Fauber under the direction of Richard Adams and the comedy of Marsha Howard, the Radio Hour will return Lawton Tufts to the stage along with introducing Trilogy. Tufts is an attorney/musician who takes his musical talents throughout the Valley. His is a unique take on songs from every genre and every decade. Trilogy is a new band formed by Kyle Fauber (son of the Boogie Kings’ drummer J. T. Fauber), Justin Martin, and Carson Pugh. This will be their first public appearance.
Although the June performance signals the end of the seventh season, The River City Radio Hour will be back for an eighth season with the first performance schedule for August. As in the past, the season’s opener will be an outdoors event in front of the Wayne Theatre.
Advanced tickets for the 7:30 performance of the Radio Hour continue to be $10 and may be purchased online(www.wtagateway.com) or by calling the box office (540-943-9999). Remaining tickets will be available at the door on the evening of the performances for $12. Doors will open at 7:00 pm. The show will last approximately 90 minutes with intermission. WTA’s Gateway is located at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.
