When it comes to figuring out Terry McAuliffe’s position on coal – pardon the pun – a ton.
McAuliffe’s spokesperson had responded tepidly to the President’s recent announcement that he would issue an executive order on climate change that would target the coal industry in Virginia. The gubernatorial candidate was waiting for the “actual regulations” and would be “seriously concerned” – whatever that means – if they hurt jobs or raised prices.
But when ultra-liberal ex-congressman and current fundraiser Tom Perriello referred, at the opening of McAuliffe’s Charlottesville campaign headquarters, to Barack Obama’s “amazing commitment on climate change,” McAuliffe could be seen on the video applauding. Not just politely. Vigorously and enthusiastically. And looking around to make sure others were doing the same.
Turns out “Out-of-Touch” Terry McAuliffe didn’t have to wait for the “actual regulations” to tell us how he felt about an action that could cost thousands of Virginia jobs and hit hardest at the poor. He just showed us.
