Charlottesville’s McIntire Golf Course to close May 31

CharlottesvilleThe remaining holes of the McIntire Park golf course will close permanently May 31, 2015, allowing this area of the park to revert to passive use as outlined in the Adopted Master Plan for the park.

With the opening of the U.S. 250/McIntire Road/John Warner Parkway interchange, the construction later this year of the pedestrian bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad connecting the east and west sides of McIntire Park, the construction of a connecting commuter trail from the bridge to the interchange, and in March 2015, City Council approved the conceptual design for the east side of the Park, it has been determined to allow this area to revert to passive use prior to the December 31, 2016sunset date.

Since the adoption of the Master Plan in September of 2012 course usage has diminished greatly, averaging five (5) rounds per day in 2013 and two (2) rounds per day in 2014.

Access to golf continues to be available at Meadowcreek Golf Course at Pen Park. Meadowcreek is adding new exciting offerings available in 2015, including an affordable short course option, the option to play to larger 8-inch cups on the greens to speed play and more. More information can be found atwww.meadowcreekgolf.org.

Citizens can also keep abreast of the progress on the design work for the east side of McIntire Park and the new skate park at www.charlottesville.org/mcintirepark.
