ACC Tournament Wednesday: What to Watch For

storylogo2You didn’t think the first round of the 2015 ACC Tournament was going to be worth your time. Then you saw two one-point games that played to the final buzzer.

Wednesday’s second round already looked good on paper, with a Top 20 team, UNC, playing in the afternoon, and three NCAA Tournament bubble teams, N.C. State, Pitt and Miami, playing in the night games.



Wednesday, noon #8 Clemson (16-14, 8-10 ACC) vs. #9 Florida State (16-15, 8-10 ACC)

Regular season: 1-1 (FSU W 59-55, Jan. 19, Clemson W 62-56, Feb. 4)

Player to watch: FSU guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes (14.4 ppg, 41.1% FG)

The winner gets: #1 seed UVA (28-2, 16-2 ACC), noon Thursday


Wednesday, 2 p.m. #5 UNC (21-10, 11-7 ACC) vs. #12 Boston College (13-18, 5-14 ACC)

Regular season: UNC won 79-68 on Feb. 7 at Boston College

Player to watch: UNC guard Marcus Paige (13.5 ppg, 4.4 apg)

Added storyline: UNC forward Kennedy Meeks (12.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg) will not play (flu)

The winner gets: #4 seed Louisville (24-7, 12-6 ACC), 2 p.m. Thursday


Wednesday, 7 p.m. #7 NC State (19-12, 10-8 ACC) vs. #10 Pitt (19-13, 8-10 ACC)

Regular season: NC State won 68-50 in Raleigh on Jan. 3

Player to watch: NC State guard Trevor Lacey (16.1 ppg, 40.7% 3FG)

Added storyline: Both teams are on the NCAA Tournament bubble

The winner gets:  #2 seed Duke (28-3, 15-3 ACC), 7 p.m. Thursday


Wednesday, 9 p.m. #6 Miami (20-11, 10-8 ACC) vs. #15 Virginia Tech (11-21, 3-16 ACC)

Regular season: Miami won 82-61 at Virginia Tech on March 7

Player to watch: Miami center Tonye Jekiri (8.6 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.5 bpg)

Added storyline: Miami is on the NCAA Tournament bubble

The winner gets: #3 seed Notre Dame (26-5, 14-4 ACC), 9 p.m. Thursday
