ACC releases 2015-2016 UVA men’s basketball schedule

Contributors

uva-basketballThe Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2015-16 men’s basketball schedules for its member institutions on Wednesday (Sept. 2). Virginia will play 30 regular-season games, including 15 contests at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers’ schedule is highlighted by nine games against 2015 NCAA Tournament teams: home games against North Carolina, Louisville, Villanova, Notre Dame and NC State, and road contests at Duke, Louisville and Ohio State. Virginia will also play West Virginia in the Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic.

ACC Schedule
Virginia will face each of the 14 conference opponents during its 18-game league schedule. The Cavaliers will play four schools home-and-away (Clemson, Louisville, Miami and Virginia Tech), five schools only at home (Boston College, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame and Syracuse) and five schools only on the road (Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Pitt and Wake Forest).

Non-Conference Highlights
Virginia’s non-conference home schedule is highlighted by contests against Villanova (Dec. 19) and California (Dec. 22). The Cavaliers will play at Ohio State (Dec. 1) during the 17th annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge and West Virginia (Dec. 8) as part of the Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York. In addition, UVa travels to the Charleston Classic in November to play three games.

Television Exposure
Virginia’s games against NC State (Feb. 15) and Miami (Feb. 22) will be featured on ESPN’s ACC BigMonday. UVa’s game at Louisville (Jan. 30) will be televised on CBS and the Cavaliers will play an additional 19 games on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Team Highlights
Virginia returns three starters – All-ACC performers Malcolm Brogdon (Atlanta, Ga.) and Anthony Gill (High Point, N.C.) and guard London Perrantes (Los Angeles) – from last year’s team that captured the ACC regular-season title and recorded 30 wins for the second consecutive season. ACC Sixth Man of the Year Mike Tobey (Monroe, N.Y.), Marial Shayok (Ottawa, Ontario), Isaiah Wilkins (Lilburn, Ga.), Evan Nolte (Milton, Ga.) and Devon Hall (Virginia Beach, Va.) also return to the Cavaliers, who led the nation in scoring defense for the second straight season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament under seventh-year head coach Tony Bennett.
