Vector Industries hosts government leaders at anniversary event

Representatives from City Hall all the way to Capitol Hill were at Vector Industries on Thursday to learn more about the Waynesboro-based nonprofit that employs and trains persons with diverse disabilities to enable them to reach their potential as productive community members.

The event was the kickoff to a month-long series of community get-togethers that will open the doors to the special things going on every day at Vector Industries, which is marking its 45th year in operations in 2014.

“Today we invited economic development and elected officials from our area and the state of Virginia. We’re very fortunate with the turnout that we got today,” said Chrissy Johnston, the CEO at Vector Industries, which has ongoing business relationships with dozens of companies across the Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia.

“Our message was clear. We’re trying to make people aware of who we are and the importance of our organization. There’s huge legislation coming our way. We’re trying to react to it fast and furious. It was an important group that came here today, and we’re very thankful that they attended our event,” Johnston said.

The remaining schedule of 45th anniversary events includes a services fair for employees, a family forum, a special customer appreciation day, and tours for local elected officials, economic development officials and service organizations.

There will also be an event opening the Vector Industries operations center on Fairfax Avenue in Waynesboro to the public for tours.

“We invite the community to take part in our celebration and to see what these amazing people do every day,” Johnston said.
