Sound Off: Senate releases CIA torture report

congressThe Senate today released a report into CIA torture of terrorism suspects in the Bush era, and the details are explosive: alleging that CIA operatives far exceeded legal authority in interrogations, engaged in vile, subhuman behavior related to suspects, some of whom, according to the report, were not actually involved in terrorist activities, but had been victims of mistaken identity, and most damning, that little of this led to actionable intelligence.

Critics of the release of the report point to expected retribution by terrorists and sympathizers against Americans and American interests abroad. Those who back the move to release the report point out that there is no real good time to make these kinds of details public.
