library-main2April is National Poetry Month and to celebrate, Waynesboro Public Library invites you to enjoy activities with poet Maurice McFadden, author of Strength Like Yours. First up are workshops on Monday, April 21. One at 4:00 pm is geared for young adults and another at 6:00 pm is for adults.

According to McFadden, Strength Like Yours “has words that edify, entertain and provoke thought. It gives readers a personal eye view into the life and times of a modern-day black man with sensibilities that are solid, traditional, innovative, urban, culturally and spiritually conscious, and always real.” McFadden will read from his book during the workshop and help you find your inner voice to create your own poetry.

After creating their own poetry, young adults are invited to showcase their work at the poetry slam on Monday, April 28 at 4:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place. Please register for the poetry slam at the library or by calling 942-6746.

Writing poetry is the most recent addition to McFadden’s career in entertainment. In addition to editing, producing, and directing, he has created his own music label, Fo the Fam. He is also a songwriter and owns P.O.R. Music, a production company. A native of the Bronx, New York, he now resides in Staunton.
