Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation awards 27 scholarships

Chris Graham

greater augusta regional chamber of commerceThe Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce recently recognized outstanding high school senior students from public and private schools in Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County at its annual Academic Achievers Reception held at the Robert Plecker Workforce Center on the campus of Blue Ridge Community College.

Twenty-seven of these students applied and were awarded scholarships.  It was the largest number handed out in the sixteen year history of the program!

New to the program and with the support of local manufacturers, the Chamber awarded scholarships to students who were planning to enroll in a career and technical education (CTE) or trade skill preparatory programs at accredited institutions. They could also be used to purchase required personal tools/equipment necessary to perform a skill set profession.

“Our Chamber recognizes the increased demand for industry specific job skills and encourages opportunities for students to pursue standard certification trades.”  said Linda Hershey, president and CEO of the Chamber.

More than 160 parents/guardians, teachers, career coaches, counselors, superintendents, legislative officials and the Chamber Education Selection Committee attended the reception.
