EnergySure Coalition applauds Atlantic Coast Pipeline LLC’s FERC filing

newspaperEnergySure, a coalition of more than 160 businesses, labor organizations, and other local, state and national groups, today announced its resounding support of Atlantic Coast Pipeline LLC’s filing submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The filing is a key milestone in the regulatory evaluation of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a $5 billion, 564-mile natural gas pipeline that would run from West Virginia through Virginia and into North Carolina. The project is expected to meet a growing need for reliable energy, create thousands of jobs, promote economic development and cleaner air, and increase state and local tax revenue.

Following the regulatory filing, EnergySure coalition members issued the following statements of support:

Matt Yonka, president of Virginia State Building & Construction Trades, stated: “The Atlantic Coast Pipeline project is expected to generate significant economic benefits across the three-state region, including more than 17,000 jobs during construction. Today’s FERC filing brings our region and labor force one step closer to reaping these benefits. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline means jobs and reinvestment in businesses and our communities.”

Joe Eddy, president and CEO of Eagle Manufacturing Company, added: “The EnergySure coalition, which represents millions of stakeholders in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina, was formed to ‘stand up’ for reliable energy. Increasing access to natural gas supplies through the Atlantic Coast Pipeline is responsible development of our natural resources.  This will not only help stabilize the oil and gas industry, but will also help fuel the greatest chemical and manufacturing expansion in over 50 years.”

John Chaffee, president and CEO of NC East Alliance, stated: “Our region is part of a national trend of unprecedented increasing demand for energy resources driven in part by many more homes and businesses to heat and power. In order to attract businesses to our region and stay competitive in a global marketplace, we need access to reliable energy. I applaud today’s FERC filing and encourage our federal regulators to recognize the critical need for this interstate natural gas pipeline.”

The Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Virginia State Building & Construction Trades, West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Affiliated Construction Trades Foundation, NC Chamber, and the Research Triangle Regional Partnership are among the more than 160 business and economic development organizations to join the EnergySure coalition. In doing so, they pledge support to be part of continued public dialogue on the urgent needsmet by, and the significant benefits of, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.  For a full list of coalition members, visit http://energysure.com/the-coalition/default.aspx#members.
