Community Foundation establishes fund for Fort Defiance High School

comm foundationFort Defiance High School will eventually have an additional source of support.  At the initiative of alumnus Scott Kimmel, the community foundation of the Central Blue Ridge has created a new endowed fund, to be known as the Fort Defiance High School Foundation.  It is the first such fund for a high school in Augusta County.

The first contribution to the new fund came from the Class of 1989, with the expressed hope that other classes will follow suit.  “This is a meaningful way for all alumni to give back to our school,” stated Kimmel, “and ensure that they will have much-needed resources to provide future students the quality of education they deserve.”

As the fund continues to grow, the community foundation will make annual grants available to the Principal of Fort Defiance High School.  The Principal will use those funds to purchase new computers, scientific equipment, and other instructional tools.

Dan Layman, CEO of the Community Foundation, added that “we welcome additional gifts and pledges so that the fund can grow and provide meaningful support to Fort Defiance High School.”

Since its inception in 1992, the community foundation has reinvested over $6 million into the community through grants, scholarships, and awards.  In addition to the new fund established specifically for Fort Defiance High School, it manages funds for the Staunton City Schools, Waynesboro Public Schools, and Augusta County Schools.

Individuals interested in learning more about the Fort Defiance High School Foundation fund, or how they can contribute, may contact the community foundation (540-213-2150 or [email protected]) or visit their website (www.communityfoundationcbr.org).  They may also contact Scott Kimmel at [email protected].
