Jim Gilmore challenges Donald Trump to birthright citizenship debate

jim-gilmoreFormer Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, polling at or near zero in the national polls in the race for the Republican Party presidential nomination, is challenging GOP front-runner Donald Trump to a one-on-one debate on birthright citizenship.

Good luck on that one.

“Any time, any place,” Gilmore said in a statement released by his campaign on Friday. “I will debate Donald Trump on his wrongheaded view of the 14th Amendment and his determination to deny children born in America birthright citizenship.”

Gilmore has been critical of Trump since the billionaire powered further to the far right with his push against the judicial interpretation of the 14th Amendment that guarantees citizenship to people born in the United States.

“Donald Trump is pandering to the worst elements of our society in this issue, and his strategy is not good for America or Americans,” Gilmore said. “I challenge him to debate me on this issue so I can show the nation his statements and views are not correct.”
