Culpeper VDOT District Traffic Alert: Sept. 14-18

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp, grading and curb installation in the median and constructing a retaining wall at the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

  • Intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur between Angus Road and Hydraulic Road.
  • The westbound Route 250 Bypass right lane will be closed from Route 29 to Barracks Road.

–        Thursday and Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • The southbound right lane will be closed from Angus Road to the Route 250 Bypass.
  • The ramp to the westbound Route 250 Bypass will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

–        Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

  • Three outside lanes closed on northbound Route 29 from Berkmar Drive to Albemarle Square.
  • Two outside lanes closed on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive.
  • Right-turn lane closed from Rio Road eastbound to Route 29 northbound. Alternating through lane closures will also occur.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive.

–        Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., inside lanes closed in both directions. Temporary traffic stops are expected for safe clearing of trees in median. Motorists will experience minor delays.

 

(UPDATE) Adaptive traffic signal control system – Rebuilding signal at Berkmar Drive and Woodbrook Drive.

–        Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lanes will be closed in both directions on Woodbrook Drive.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

 

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(NEW) Route 29 (Monacan Trail) – Paving from just north of Route 692 (Plank Road) to Route 760 (Red Hill School Road). Uniformed police officers will assist with traffic control overnight Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Constructing right-turn lane at Route 729 (Milton Road). Monday through Friday from10 a.m. to 3 p.m., westbound lane closed with traffic controlled by flagging. Expect delays. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(NEW) Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Milling and paving from 0.3 mile east of the Interstate 64 interchange at Shadwell to the Fluvanna County line. Flagging will occur overnight beginning Thursday, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

(NEW) Route 625 (Hatton Ferry Road) – Drainage pipe replacement between Route 726 (James River Road) and Route 812 (Jim Lane Road). Flagging will occur Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 631 (5th Street) – Milling, paving and line painting from Route 1870 (Ambrose Commons Drive) to 0.2 mile north of the Interstate 64 overpass. Sunday through Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by uniformed police officers. Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

(UPDATE) Route 654 (Barracks Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Intermittent lane closures with flagging near Route 1001 (Colthurst Drive) Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection,then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(NEW) Route 810 (Crozet Avenue) – Tree removal at intersection of Route 1211 (Ballard Drive). Flagging will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 6, 20, 608, 637, 645, 691, 692, 810 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 231, 635 – Debris removal.
  • Routes 601, 610, 612, 614, 621, 631, 654, 66, 743, 746, 769, 808, 1493 – Mowing.
  • Routes 640, 712, 735, 1446 – Pipe replacements.
  • Route 736 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Grading and clearing operations from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to just west of Route 739 (Clay Hills Road). Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone between Route 788 and just west of Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Rappahannock County line to the Fauquier County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 655 (Somerville Road) – Paving of gravel road from Route 689 (Cedar Run Road) to Route 652 (Mitchell Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 657 (Old Mill Road) – Paving of gravel road from 0.3 mile to 2.1 miles south of Route 645 (Kirtley Trail).Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

(NEW) Route 673 (Newbys Shop Road) – Paving of gravel road from Route 675 (Thoms Road) south to Route 675 north. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

(UPDATE) Route 775 (Ferguson Lane) – Paving of gravel road from Route 621 (Jeffersonton Road) to the end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

  • Routes 522, 601, 613, 614, 615, 621, 626, 633, 638, 639, 641, 643, 646, 663, 666, 669, 684, 686, 692, 703, 706, 707, 714, 729, 730 – Mowing.
  • Routes 601, 617, 624, 630, 647, 650, 652, 655, 657, 661, 685, 689, 693, 706, 721, 736, 749, 786 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 620, 669 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 647, 652, 655, 685, 689, 736 – Applying dust control.
  • Route 680 – Pipe replacement.

 

Fauquier County

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs near mile markers 20 and 22 with alternating eastbound lanes closed Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Bridge repairs near mile marker 36 with alternating lane closures in both directions Sunday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 66 – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(NEW) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Crews will install a flashing yellow arrow signal at Route 28 (Catlett Road) and Route 651 (Freemans Ford Road). The work will require one to two nights to complete. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, but motorists should use caution approaching the intersection and be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Culpeper County line to the town of Warrenton. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anticipated completion July 2016.

Route 742 (Wheatley School Road) – Paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) to the end of state maintenance, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

Route 752 (Sillamon Road) – Replacement of bridge over Deep Run. Road closed at the bridge, approximately one mile east of Route 617 (Blackwells Mill Road) near Goldvein. Motorists should use posted detour via Route 617. Anticipated completion Oct. 1.

  • Routes 17, 245, 565, 602, 605, 643, 647, 670, 674, 688, 712, 721,726, 731, 732, 743, 789, Route 29 commuter lot – Mowing.
  • Routes 17, 55, 245, 616 – Debris removal.
  • Routes 605, 616, 620, 651, 670, 732, 736, 802, 1404 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 620, 651, 674, 721, 726, 1503 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 628, 629, 681, 688, 702, 704, 705, 708 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 661 – Pipe replacement.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

  • Route 53 – Trimming.
  • Routes 608, 619, 620, 629, 630, 632, 637, 643, 645, 671, 761 – Mowing.

 

Greene County

(NEW) Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

 

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Route 658 (Old Apple Grove Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday and Tuesday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(UPDATE) Route 677 (Goodwins Store Road) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(UPDATE) Route 709 (Blueberry Lane) – Paving of gravel road. On Monday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(UPDATE) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 614 (Carrs Bridge Road) – From Route 652 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 690 (Lake Anna Drive) – From Route 614 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 753 (Sam Boyd Road) – From Route 630 to Route 208.
  • Route 820 (Walnut Woods Avenue) – From Route 625 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1005 (Loch Lane Drive) – From Route 33 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1007 (Lyde Avenue) – From Route 1024 to Route 33.
  • Route 1020 (Club Road) – From Route 1022 to Route 33.
  • Route 1023 (Woodger Circle) – From Route 1022 to the end of state maintenance.

Madison County

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Monroe Highway) – Pavement patching. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to 0.3 mile south of Route 612 (James City Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Routes 600, 611, 642, 670 – Mowing.
  • Routes 614, 643, 721 – Pipe replacement.

 

Orange County

(UPDATE) Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation just north of Route 726 (Pumphouse Road). Alternating lanes closed with flagging on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Obey traffic controls

(UPDATE) Route 2014 (Knolls Road) – Application of roadway surface treatment from Route 20 (Constitution Highway) to the end of the road. Alternating lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday from 8 a.m. to noon.

(UPDATE) Route 2015 (Walters Road) – Application of roadway surface treatment from Route 20 (Constitution Highway) to the end of the road. Alternating lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday from noon to 3 p.m.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 602, 603, 620, 681, 684, 685 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 602, 605, 606, 608, 620, 698, 709, 716 – Applying dust control.
  • Routes 612, 660 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 621 – Mowing.
  • Routes 639, 1081 – Surface treatment.

 

Rappahannock County

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Page County line to the Culpeper County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Pavement patching. Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from about 0.8 mile south of Route 655 (Short Road) to about 0.4 mile north or Route 231 (FT Valley Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

  • Routes 522, 626, 647 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 611, 613, 618, 639, 642, 643, 645, 646, 669, 729, 730 – Mowing.
