boys-and-girls-club-logoBoys & Girls Club of Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County executive director Tyrell McElroy is stepping down from the position Jan. 9 to take another position in Florida.

The chair of the local nonprofit’s board of directors, Tom Hardiman, announced the news in an email to club supporters on Wednesday.

“I am very happy for his beautiful family and wish them nothing but the best as they embark on this next adventure,” Hardiman said. “But it saddens me as a member of the club’s board of directors and a community member to lose this young man who was so passionate about our youth and who served as a fantastic role model for them.”

McElroy had served as the executive director of the local Boys & Girls Club organization for five years.

The organization has formed a selection committee to begin a search for McElroy’s replacement.
