You knew this already, but the Washington bullpen gave up a late lead, this time on a Matt Wieters two-run, eighth-inning homer, and the Baltimore Orioles completed a three-game sweep with a 5-4 win at Nationals Park on Thursday.
Blake Treinen (2-4, 3.86 ERA) gave up the Wieters long ball. The Nats had just taken a 4-3 lead with a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, on a Wilson Ramos homer and a Yunel Escobar RBI double.
UVA alum Tyler Wilson got a no-decision in a solid start for the O’s, giving up two runs on six hits in six innings of work, striking out four and walking two.
Mike Wright (3-5, 6.23 ERA) got the win in relief for Baltimore, and Darren O’Day notched his sixth save of the season, and third of the series, with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The Orioles (76-76) are currently just three and a half games back of the second American League wild-card spot with 10 games to play in the 2015 season.
