Robert Sarvis: New Ed Gillespie Senate TV ad is ‘classic misdirection’

Following the release of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ed Gillespie’s new “Blank Check” television advertisement, Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis made the following statement.

“Ed Gillespie’s ad is classic misdirection. He wants voters to look in one direction at Mark Warner’s record of voting with Barack Obama 97 percent of the time, but he doesn’t want them to see his own record he’s hiding in his other hand. Mark Warner may be a blank check for Obama, but Ed Gillespie was a blank check for George W. Bush.

“As Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Gillespie bragged to the press that the Republican Party under Bush was no longer the party of reducing government. The Bush-Gillespie GOP drove up debt as it simultaneously sought to increase the role of the federal government in our private lives, from launching the mass surveillance state to pushing for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

Ed Gillespie refuses to debate me because he knows I can challenge him on these and other issues.

“Meanwhile, Gillespie’s ad obscures the fact that many of Mark Warner’s votes with Barack Obama were votes enabling intrusions into Americans’ civil liberties. Mark Warner also looked the other way when Barack Obama violated the War Powers Resolution.

“I’m the only candidate in the race who won’t be a blank check to any president of any party.”
