WVPT welcomes back Spring Online Auction

afp_wvptWVPT’s Spring Auction is back! Featuring hundreds of donated items, the online auction—to benefit WVPT Public Television—will be held May 2-14.

Individuals can already view items available for the auction online—a key fundraising event for WVPT—at auction.wvpt.net. Categories include Travel, Dining, Entertainment, Sports, Automotive, Art and Collectibles, Health and Fitness and Kids.

WVPT brought the auction back in 2010 in response to viewer requests and transitioned the event to an online format two years ago. It has since served as a way for the station to offset continued reductions in government support.

Last spring’s online auction raised nearly $20,000 to support the quality, educational programming that WVPT provides. This year’s goal is $30,000.

Auction highlights include:  dining certificates for area restaurants, golf packages, tickets to area theatres and many travel packages including trips to the Caribbean, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Chicago and various places around Virginia. An “Auction Preview Show”—to highlight many of the items up for bid—will be frequently broadcasted on WVPT throughout the auction’s duration.

“We really enjoy the excitement that our online auctions bring,” said WVPT President and General Manager David Mullins. “With hundreds of items at prices ranging from a few dollars to thousands of dollars, the auction has something for everyone.”

Bidders are encouraged to determine the maximum amount they want to pay for an item and place a “proxy bid”—this will automatically increase the bid whenever someone else bids higher until their pre-set limit is reached. Proxy bidding eliminates the need to check items online on a daily basis.

In conjunction with the auction, WVPT is holding “The Spirit of Downton Abbey Raffle”—a trip to England, with a tour of Highclere Castle, valued at $5,400—which the winner and one companion will experience September 1-7. A limited number of raffle tickets are available for purchase through May 23 for $51 on the auction website.
