Waynesboro Police investigating suspicious fire

Chris Graham

Frye St Fire 2The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred early last Thursday morning in the Shenandoah Heights neighborhood.

On April 23, 2014 at approximately 5:20 a.m., the Waynesboro Fire Department and police responded to the 1000 block of Frye Street for a report of a vehicle fire.  When firefighters and officers arrived, they found a 1988 Ford Bronco fully engulfed in flames and threatening the residence where it was parked.

Officers evacuated the 59-year-old owner and his wife from their residence in case the fire spread or the vehicle exploded.  Officers also evacuated neighbors from one other nearby residence while firefighters extinguished the fire.  None of the structures were damaged, but the Ford Bronco and another vehicle, a 1966 Ford pick-up truck, parked next to the Bronco were total losses.  There were no injuries.

Police detectives and the fire marshal suspect foul play in this fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department at (540) 942-6675 or Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers at 1(800)322-2017.  Information given to Crime Stoppers may be given anonymously.  Callers with information that lead to an arrest in this case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
