vdot logoThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 9.6, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures and right shoulder closures as needed for bridge repair over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes and under guardrails and removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, ditching, patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 – Flagger controlled lane closures for I-64 bridge repairs over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, ditching, brush cutting and patching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (NEW) Mile marker 44 to 41, westbound – Single lane closures as needed for cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets.Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches, repairing mile marker signs and removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 180.8, southbound – Bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 21, 2013.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 182.2 – Northbound and southbound shoulder closures at Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) for bridge repair. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 21, 2013.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 183.7 – Northbound shoulder closures over Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) for bridge repair.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 21, 2013.

(NEW) Mile markers 199 to 201, northbound – The right lane of I-81 northbound will be closed for pavement marking work on one or both of the following nights:  Thursday, November 21, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Monday, November 25, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. This work is taking place on the section of I-81 just before the bridge over Route 710 at exit 200. Upon completion of the pavement marking work, northbound traffic on this portion of I-81 will be switched to the two far right lanes at the Route 710 bridge to allow for additional bridge work. This work is part of the Truck Climbing Lane project.

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile markers signs, cleaning paved slopes/ditches and under guardrails. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill), southbound – Right shoulder closure and flagger-controlled lane closures for repairs to southbound I-81 bridge. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 21, 2013.

Route 11 (South Lee Highway) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed for fiber optic cable installation. Flagger controlled traffic in work zone from the Natural Bridge Fire Station to 0.07 mile south of Route 680 (Falling Spring Road). Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 60 (East Nelson Street, Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is December 2013.

Various roads – Patching, ditching, tree removal, pipe replacement and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, shoulder repairs and ditching with traffic controlled by a mobile operation. Trash pickup with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) – Shoulder closure or flagger controlled lane closure as needed for repair of bridge over I-81 southbound.  Work zone is 0.10 mile from Route 11 to 1.8 miles to Route 680. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 21, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) – Shoulder or flagger controlled lane closures as needed for repair of bridge over I-81.  Work zone is 0.2 mile from Route 11 to 0.05 mile to Fancy Hill Lane. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Nov. 21, 2013.

Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Daytime lane closures for bridge work as part of the I-81 Truck Climbing Lane project. Route 710 traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, while crews work on the I-81 bridge deck. In addition, flaggers will temporarily hold traffic at various times during the work day as needed. Estimated completion November 2013.

Various roads – Ditching, shoulder repairs, tree removal, brush cutting, patching, pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Trash pickup with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – Ditching with flagger traffic control Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, cleaning paved ditches and bridge slopes, cleaning under guardrails. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 237 to 205, northbound and southbound – Lane closures as needed for mowing operations. Mondaythrough Friday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Mowing with no lane closures, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville area with project-related work on Stover School Road, Church Street View Street, Palmer Street, Graham Street, Blacksmith Shop Road, Old Staunton Road as needed) – Northbound intermittent lane closures for sewer project. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road) – Flagger controlled traffic from 0.07 mile north of Route 794 to 0.25 mile south of Route 795 for Rural Rustic project. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 29, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 652 (Wilda Road) – Road closure to replace a box culvert for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Work zone is between Route 608 (Cold Springs Rd) and Route 657 (Indian Ridge Rd).  There will be a detour in place. Estimated completion Nov. 20, 2013

(UPDATE) Route 662 (Stover School Road) – One lane closure as needed from Route 11 to View Street. Flaggers and signs in place to assist motorist. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 701 (Howardsville Road) between Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) – Right shoulder closures with possible single lane closures for installation of right turn lane for C. Layman Subdivision. Monday to Friday, 8.a.m. to 5.p.m.  Estimated completion end of Nov. 29 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 916 (View Street) – Lane closures as needed for shoulder repair, from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south.  Estimated completion Dec. 30 2013.

Route 1050 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 1201 (Graham Street) – Possible lane closure for sewer work and tree removal in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, fence repair, and mile post replacements. Monday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday toFriday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 mile south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector. Possible shoulder closures controlled by signs, from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge work from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 918 (Mill Street) – Closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

(UPDATE) Routes 1182, 1183, 1184, 1185, 1186, 1142, 1143, 1146, 1147 (Belmont Subdivision) – Milling and paving operations. November 18 to 22, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – New traffic pattern as part of bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway. Watch for daily lane closures and 24/7 shoulder closures. Traffic will be routed onto new section of road, 0.1 mile south of Route 663 (Island Ford Road) to 0.16 mile south of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road). Estimated completion end of fall 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 283, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, tree removal. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 264 to 293, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures at various locations for bridge repairs, pothole repairs. Be alert for lane closure signage. Nighttime closures Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion end of November.

(NEW) Mile marker 283 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris and brush removal. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 – Paving from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and shoulder repair. Monday, Thursday, Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 – Nighttime alternating left and right lane closures, northbound and southbound, for utility work from 18th Street to East Strasburg Road (Route 55). Monday to Friday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Estimated completion Nov. 25, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 mile north. Traffic control with periodic flagging operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
