Stone Cold Steve Austin on gay marriage: He supports it

Chris Graham

steve austinWhen you see a headline promising you details on Stone Cold Steve Austin and his position on gay marriage, you don’t expect to read about how he supports it. But that is the case, as Austin revealed on his podcast this week.

“I’ve got some damn good friends that are gay. I’m absolutely for same sex marriage,” Austin said.

An interesting move, and more interesting will be gauging what kind of impact his public stance will have on wrestling fans. WWE has opened itself up as more embracing on issues related to same sex relationships in recent months, with performer Darren Young coming out last summer to a flurry of support from the company and fellow wrestlers.

Still, in a sports entertainment environment that hasn’t always been so accepting, Austin, one of wrestling’s most well-known tough guys, can carry a lot of sway, in his own style.

Blasting religious organizations that oppose same sex marriage, Austin asked aloud, “Which one of these mother f-ckers talked to God, and God said that same sex marriage was a no can do? Can you verify, can you give me some 411 on that background?

“I don’t think that there is a God that says you cannot do this, you cannot do that,” Austin said. ‘If two cats can’t get married, but then a guy can go murder 14 people, molest 5 kids, then go to f-cking prison and then accept God, he’s going to let him into heaven. After the fact that he did all that sh-t?! See, that’s all horse sh-t to me, that don’t jive with me.”
