Just in time to celebrate Wildflower Weekend and Mother’s Day, Shenandoah National Park will reopen the section of Skyline Drive that includes Marys Rock Tunnel at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8.
The tunnel was closed on May 4, 2015, to remove loose rock. A contractor working for the National Park Service removed 5 cubic yards of rock from the south end of the tunnel.
Road paving work to repair the section of Skyline Drive damaged by a significant rock fall in March 2015 is expected to begin next week under alternating one-way traffic.
No closures will be associated with this operation, though visitors can expect delays lasting no more than 15 minutes.
