Rio-Hillsdale signal equipment upgrade on Sunday, May 1

Chris Graham

road-work-headerOn Sunday, May 1, the Virginia Department of Transportation will replace the traffic signal controller cabinet at the intersection of Route 631 (Rio Road East) and Route 1427 (Hillsdale Drive) in Albemarle County.

Planned for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the work involves removing the existing signal cabinet, installing a new cabinet and rewiring the electrical connections inside. Since the traffic signal will be without power, Virginia State Police will direct traffic for the duration of the work. Motorists are asked to pay attention and drive with caution through the intersection.

The equipment upgrade will improve maintenance reliability as well as allow VDOT more flexibility to modify the signal timing and maximize the flow of traffic.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTCulp.
