Lumos launches 100 Gig wavelength services across Mid-Atlantic network

lumos_homeLumos Networks Corp.  (NASDAQ:LMOS), a leading provider of fiber-based bandwidth infrastructure & IP services in key Mid-Atlantic markets, today launched 100Gbps wavelength services across its entire Mid-Atlantic footprint.

“This service is poised to handle the ever growing demand for increased bandwidth of both wholesale and enterprise customers. 100Gbps is in early adoption stage and is being used by carriers to support network transport. Similar to 1Gbps wavelength service, Lumos anticipates increased adoption as enterprise demand increases. By launching this product today, Lumos is demonstrating that they are ready to meet the growing demand for this high capacity service,” said Lumos Networks Vice President of Product Management & Engineering Craig Drinkhall. “We see a migration to 100Gbps across our footprint as necessary to meet the dramatic surge in network traffic,” he added.

Similar to other 2.5Gbps and 10Gbps wavelength services, also available on the Lumos Network, 100Gbps allows customers to operate their own networks by constructing robust backbone infrastructures. 100Gbps wavelength serviceprovides greater throughput, superior latency performance, and route diversity demanded by Enterprise and Carrier customers. It also provides the necessary transport bandwidth for high capacity applications such as cloud computing, on-line data storage back up, and collocation service centers.

From a cost perspective, 100Gbps wavelength is more economical than operating multiple 10Gbps wavelengths saving the customer capital expense for equipment. Additionally, 100Gbps provides infrastructure to allow the customer’s packet network to run more efficiently, while being easier for customers to manage as a result of fewer links between nodes.
