East Rockingham Senior Center Hosted Pharmacist

Contributors

ersc pharmLeah Belcher, Pharmacist with Elkton Family Pharmacy, offered a very informative talk about “Managing Your Medications in the New Year,” to 20 ERSC members and 2 volunteers on January 14. This is the first time ERSC has hosted a registered pharmacist.

Ms. Belcher spoke about how folks can be reminded to take medicines—through the use of pill boxes or having the pharmacy that they use to place a label on each bottle stating the proper use. She also briefly discussed the differences between name brand drugs and generic ones, and said while they both have to have the same active ingredients, they do not have to have the same inactive ingredients. Additionally, Ms. Belcher addressed questions regarding herbal medicines and other concerns raised by members regarding prescription and non prescription drugs.

Following her formal presentation, Ms. Belcher met one-on-one with several of our members who had brought in their medication lists. All total, Ms. Belcher offered more than 90 minutes of her professional advice to our Center members.
