House Republican Leaders call for investigation into Virginia Planned Parenthood chapters

state-capitol2Republican leaders in the Virginia House of Delegates on Thursday called on Governor Terry McAuliffe to begin an investigation into Virginia’s Planned Parenthood chapters in the wake of allegations that Planned Parenthood abortion doctors conducted partial birth abortions in order to harvest the body parts of children for money.

“The practices described in news reports and discussed in that video are horrific and should be universally condemned, regardless of one’s personal views on abortion,” said Virginia House Speaker Bill Howell (R-Stafford). “Governor McAuliffe should immediately direct the appropriate state agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into Virginia’s Planned Parenthood chapters to determine if any of these practices have happened in the Commonwealth and if Planned Parenthood is following all state laws, regulations and reporting requirements.”

“Every human life is precious and the General Assembly has taken specific steps to protect innocent life, including specifically prohibiting partial-birth and late-term abortions,” said House Majority Leader Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights). “In the wake of this video, an investigation into Planned Parenthood is necessary to ensure those laws are being followed and the practices discussed in that video are not happening in Virginia.”

“The video is absolutely horrifying, confirming practices that are outrageous and abhorrent,” said Delegate Kathy Byron (R-Campbell). “The cavalier attitude toward life, expressed between mouthfuls of salad, was particularly shocking.  Governor McAuliffe needs to make sure these practices are not occurring in Virginia.”

House Majority Caucus Chairman Tim Hugo (R-Fairfax) said, “I understand that some Virginians have different views on abortion, but what was shown in that video and what has been documented in news reports since should be condemned regardless of any personal opinions on abortion. The casual nature of the conversation makes it even more gut wrenching. An immediate investigation to determine if anything like that has ever happened in Virginia abortion clinics is a reasonable step to take.”

“Governor McAuliffe received nearly $2 million in campaign contributions from the abortion industry,” said Delegate Jackson H. Miller (R-Manassas). “He simply cannot remain silent on the outrageous reports regarding Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices. He should begin an immediate investigation.”
