The Staunton Augusta Art Center announces two new, concurrent exhibitions featuring Sukjin Cho and Lynn Hilton Conyers that run July 6-August 8 in the art galleries of the RR Smith Center for History and Art, 20 S. New Street, in historic downtown Staunton. Art enthusiasts are encouraged to attend the opening reception and gallery interpretations by both artists at 5 p.m. There is no charge to visit the galleries or to attend the reception and everyone is welcome. JMU Children’s Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Studio Theatre, Forbes Center for the Performing Arts: Adapted by Allison Gregory and Steven Dietz, adapted from the book “Go, Dog. Go!” by P.D. Eastman. Presented by JMU Children’s Theatre Playshop Players. From cars and boats to Ferris wheels and roller skates, “Go, Dog. Go!” takes audiences of all ages for the ride of a lifetime. Dogs of different colors and sizes come to life in a rollicking production filled with slapstick humor, dazzling musical numbers and nods to Broadway vaudeville and circus performance. Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park presents Not Just Black and White: Exploring the Complexities of Emancipation in the Post-war Shenandoah Valley at 7 p.m.. “The unending tragedy of Reconstruction is the utter inability of the American mind to grasp its real significance, its national and world-wide implications….” This program will begin to explore how Reconstruction affected both black and white civilians of the Shenandoah Valley; focusing on the daily struggles of everyday life to the political impacts for all in this region. This program will take place at the Thorndale Farm, an example of a typical small family farm that dotted the Valley landscape. Join Ranger Shannon Moeck for this stationary program at 652 N. Buckton Road, Middletown, VA. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
Sean Donnelly, currently one of New York’s hottest comedians, is coming to Court Square Theater at 8 p.m. The United Nations of Comedy Tour has featured five shows to date at the theater, with headliners including Jordan Rock, Antoine Scott, Adrienne Iapalucci, Liz Miele and Rich Praytor.
