Augusta Health was this week named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Reuters, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.
The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® study evaluates performance in 10 areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average patient stay, expenses, profitability, patient satisfaction, adherence to clinical standards of care, post-discharge mortality, and readmission rates for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. The study has been conducted annually since 1993. This is the fourth time, and second consecutive year, that Augusta Health has been recognized with this honor.

John Peterson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Augusta Health. “It’s about the care and effort that our medical staff, employees and volunteers have provided to our community, and the great teamwork they demonstrate in delivering that quality care.”
In addition to being named one of the 100 Top Hospitals, Augusta Health was one of twelve of the Top 100 hospitals to receive the Everest Award. The Everest Award honors hospitals that have the highest current performance and fastest long-term improvement over five years. The Everest Award winners represent a special group of the 100 Top Hospitals that have set national benchmarks on a balanced scorecard of performance indicators. This is the second consecutive year that Augusta Health has received the Everest Award.

Thomson Reuters estimates that if all hospitals performed at the same level as the 100 Top Hospital award winners, more than 186,000 additional lives could be saved, approximately 56,000 additional patients could be complication-free, more than $4.3 billion could be saved and the average patient stay would decrease by nearly half a day. To recognize the best hospitals in the United States, Thomas Reuters analyzes independent public data and objective research methods. Hospitals do not apply for this award and winners do not pay to market it.
Recently, Augusta Health was also named a 100 Best Hospital by HealthGrades, a leading provider of information to consumers. Augusta Health was recognized by HealthGrades because its risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates have been in the top five percent of all hospitals in the nation for at least four consecutive years.
