Arts Block Party to take over Downtown Lexington

greenhousevaA celebration of the arts in Lexington will take place Friday, October 3rd from 5 to 7:30pm with the Arts of Lexington Block Party.  West Washington Street between Main and Jefferson streets will be closed to traffic while the neighborhood comes alive with music, street performers, dancers, paintings and sculpture, food and wine, kids’ activities and much more.

Sponsored by local galleries and merchants, the event is a repeat of its successful 2012 debut. Most shops and galleries will remain open for the block party and all are invited to participate in the traditional First Friday gallery openings and gallery walk.

The band Greenhouse will perform their popular eclectic acoustic mix of Americana, Caribbean, old time, blues and bluegrass music. Halestone Dance Studio members will present spontaneous street performances. Jonathan the Juggler will again bring his highly entertaining juggling, sleight-of-hand and unicycle act to the party.

Ed Mattioli will exhibit his metal works, including a life sized saber tooth tiger skeleton. There will be several of Mark Cline’s famous fiberglass creations, as well as work by local sculptors Susan Harb, Devan Malore, Mark Chittum and Yates Spencer.

Local painters will display their work on the street, along with artwork from participating galleries. Art related children’s activities will be set up on the street and slide show featuring 19th Century photography of Lexington will be projected on the side of surrounding buildings beginning at dusk.
