healthcareNearly 7.5 million consumers selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled through the HealthCare.gov platform as of Jan. 30, 2015, including 329,447 in Virginia.

Today’s Weekly Enrollment Snapshot for the first time also includes people who selected a plan or were automatically reenrolled within select Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). This localized data provides another level of detail to better understand total plan selections within local communities ahead of the Feb. 15 deadline.

As of Jan. 30:

  • 129,737 consumers in the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV – (VA and WV portions of MSA only) local area selected or were automatically enrolled in a plan
  • 55,165 consumers in the Richmond, VA local area selected or were automatically enrolled in a plan
  • 53,801 consumers in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA-NC local area selected or were automatically enrolled in a plan

“There are just eleven days before the February 15 deadline and the end of this year’s Open Enrollment,” HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell said. “Time is running out. Consumers should shop at HealthCare.gov for an affordable plan that fits their budget and health needs and join the 329,447 individuals in Virginia who have signed up to date. 83 percent of Virginia consumers who have signed up for coverage qualify for financial assistance to help lower the cost of their premiums.”

MSAs are geographic areas designated by the Office of Management and Budget and have populations of at least 50,000. A number of MSAs cross state lines. In the cases where MSAs cross into states using their own enrollment platforms, only data from the portions of the MSA using the HealthCare.gov platform are included.
