VDOT road work schedule for May 27-31

vdot logoThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Tree removal and cleaning of ditches, shoulders, ramps and median. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 9.6 eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repairs over Route 600 and Johnson Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 29 over Route 639, eastbound and westbound. Bridge repairs with flagger controlled lane closures on Route 639 as needed. Work zone is 1.22 miles east of Route 60 and .53 mile west of Route 42. Mondayto Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* Mile marker 31 eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repairs over Route 635. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Fiber optic cable installations both underground and above ground. Work will include shoulder closures and occasional lane closures. Work zone between the West Virginia Line at Sweet Springs and Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) and then continuing on Route 311 north to Route 601 (Tuckahoe Road), then continuing on Route 601 to the West Virginia Line. Estimated completion June 2013.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Ditching, mowing and patching with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 600 – Flagger-controlled lane closures for bridge repairs at Interstate 64. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* Route 635 – Flagger-controlled lane closures for bridge repairs at Interstate 64. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* Route 639 (Longdale Station Road) – Repairs to eastbound and westbound Interstate 64 bridges. Flagger-controlled lane closures on Route 639 as needed. Work zone is 1.22 miles east of Route 60 and .53 mile west of Route 42. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* Route 647 – Pavement work from intersection with Hattie Street to intersection with Horse Mountain View and Mall Road.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 792 – Pavement work from intersection with Horse Mountain View to intersection with Mallow Road.  Mondaythrough Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Ditching, mowing and patching with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound. Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound. Tree removal and cleaning of ditches, shoulders, ramps and medians. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Tree removal and cleaning of ditches, shoulders, ramps and medians. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 180.8, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Also southbound left exit ramp narrows. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 199 to 202, northbound left lane closures. Truck Climbing Lane project paving operations.Tuesday, May 28 to Thursday, May 30, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation north of Route 39. Estimated completion end of May.

* Route 11 at I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill).  Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for I-81 bridge repair over Route 11. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation south of I-81 Exit 195. Estimated completion end of May.

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation north of Natural Bridge. Estimated completion end of May.

* Route 11 –Paving work from intersection with Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to intersection with Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is Dec. 2013.

* Route 501 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Tuesday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Ditching, mowing, weed-eating, pot hole repairs, sweeping intersections and pipe replacement at various locations. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) – Single lane closure with flagger traffic control for waterline replacement project. Work area is between Route 11 and Lincoln Road.  Estimated completion mid-June.

* Various Roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, weed-eating, sweeping intersections, pothole repairs, patching, grading, ditching, pipe replacement, tree removal. Flagger control as needed. Tuesday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220 – Shoulder repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. * (UPDATE) Various roads – Sweeping and pothole repairs, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m.to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – Slope repairs .5 mile north of Route 613. Traffic restricted to one lane.

* Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road North) – Ditch work with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 678 north (Bullpasture River Road) – Ditch work with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Pothole repairs and sweeping with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64 * (UPDATE) Mile marker 96 to 106 on Afton Mountain, eastbound and westbound – Left lane and right and left shoulder closures for installation of rock safety fencing and cable barrier/guardrail, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expected completion July 2013.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.5 to 237, northbound and southbound. Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 205.5 to 237, northbound and southbound – Tree removal and cleaning of ditches, shoulders, ramps and medians. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Various locations. Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Tuesday to Friday, 8 p.m to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville), northbound and southbound – Single lane closure northbound for sewer construction, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion is November 30, 2013.

* Route 250 – Paving from Route 636 to Waynesboro city limits. Eastbound and westbound lane closures as needed. Flagger traffic control. Sunday to Saturday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Installation of sanitary line and water line at various locations, with retaining wall placement along Delphine Avenue to Fourth Street. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Various locations – pothole repairs and sweeping. Flagger-controlled lane closures. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Various locations — mowing operations, Tuesday to Friday. Estimated completion May 31, 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 629 (Deerfield Valley Road) – pavement work with lane closures as needed. May 28 to May 31, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 640 – Alternating lane closures for paving. Work zone will be from Route 285 to Route 834. Tuesdayto Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – ditch work and pipe replacement with lane closures as needed. May 28 to May 31, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Route 698 (Wise Hollow Road) – Road construction from Route 690 (Summit Church Road) to the Rockingham County Line. Flagger controlled traffic Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion July 31.

* Route 748 (Flint Hill Road) – Road construction west of Mt. Sidney, from Route 626 (Seawright Springs Road) to Route 696 (Sidney Gap Road). Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* Route 1050 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 1316 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) cul-de-sac. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Various routes – mowing, pothole repairs, sweeping and grading. Flagger-controlled lane closures as needed. Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Various locations. Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Tuesday to Friday, 8 p.m to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – Entrance updgrades between Route 765 (Gravels Road) and I-81 interchange. Flagger-controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* Route 42 (North Main Street) at the intersection of Route 617 (Church Street) in the town of Timberville.  Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 602 (East Point Road) – Milling and paving between Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) and Route 637 (Florist Road). Alternating lane closures controlled by flaggers. Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

* Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Ditch work from Route 996 (McGaheysville Road) to Route 655 (Lawyer Road). Flagging operations as needed from Tuesday to Friday. Expect some delays. Estimated completion September 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 708 (Goods Mill Road) – Closed for culvert replacement at Congers Creek. No detours. Work zone is between Route 676 (Charlie Town Road) and Route 676 (Oak Shade Road). Estimated completion is June 5, 2013.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 918 (Mill Street) will be temporarily closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.40 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.5 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Motorists should use extreme caution and obey posted speed limit. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – mowing operations, Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 277 to 276 southbound – Slope Repairs. Daytime shoulder closures and possible nighttime lane closures. Beginning Wednesday, May 29, weather permitting.

* (UPDATE) Various locations – Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Tuesday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 55 eastbound – paving operations from the Route 11/55 intersection to Route 1201 in the town of Strasburg. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and pilot trucks. Monday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion is May 31, 2013.

* Various Roads – Mowing operations Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 605 (Saint Luke Road) – Slope repairs. Work zone is 0.2 miles east of Route 679 (Dysart Road). Flagger-controlled lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 28, weather permitting.

* Route 629 – Pavement work from intersection of Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to intersection at Main Street. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Route 771 (Boyer Road) – Closed for bridge replacement beginning May 28 at 8 a.m. Work zone is in the Fort Valley area, from 1.25 miles west of Route 678 to 0.15 miles north of Route 773. Northbound traffic will detour onto Route 774, north on Route 678 and back onto Route 771. Southbound traffic will detour onto Route 678, west on Route 774 and end detour at Route 773. Estimated completion is June 21, 2013.

* (NEW) Various roads – Surface treatment. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion June 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 300 to 318 northbound and southbound – Repairs to various bridges. Nighttime single-lane closures, Tuesday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 317, northbound – Extend deceleration lane at Exit 317. Nighttime right lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and daytime shoulder closures. Estimated completion is November 2013.

* Various locations – Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Sunday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 50 – Left and right lane closures for guardrail work. Work zone is 0.56 miles west of Route 733 to 0.03 miles west of Route 752. Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing operations Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 681 (Chestnut Grove Road) – Bridge work at Isaacs Creek. Wednesday to Friday. Estimated completion June 1, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 853 (Sinking Spring Lane) – Bridge work at Back Creek. Tuesday, May 28 to Thursday, May 30, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Surface treatment. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion June 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 631 (Gooney Manor Loop) from Route 613 to 1.90 south of Route 632. Flagger traffic control for road grading and surface treatment. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion July 26, 2018.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
