Undeclared allergens in certain varieties of baked goods made by Davis Bakery

vdacsThe Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is warning consumers about the possible exposure to undeclared food allergens in certain varieties of baked goods manufactured by Davis Bakery of Richmond.

This advisory applies to the specific packaged baked goods listed below because the products were incorrectly labeled and may contain undeclared wheat, milk, soy and/or tree nut allergens. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat, milk, soy and/or tree nuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. The products were distributed for sale throughout Virginia in retail grocery stores and convenience stores.

The following products were packaged with a yellow label:

  • Lemon Pie Bar (Net Wt. 2.6 oz.)
  • Coconut Pie Bar (Net Wt. 2.6 oz.)

The following products were packaged with a white label:

  • Marble Cake (Net Wt. 2.1 oz.)
  • Lemon Cake (Net Wt. 2.1 oz.)
  • Golden Cake (Net Wt. 2.1 oz.)
  • Chocolate Cake (Net Wt. 2.1 oz.)
  • Banana Cake (Net Wt. 2.1 oz.)

The consumer advisory was initiated after a routine inspection and label review by VDACS revealed that products containing wheat, milk, soy and/or tree nuts were distributed in packaging with labeling that did not reveal the presence of the allergens. Davis Bakery has since corrected the labeling problem; however products with the old labeling may still be available for sale or remain in consumer households based on the extended shelf-life.

The company has not received any reports of allergic reactions or illnesses associated with the products to date. Customers who have questions may contact the VDACS Food Safety Program at 804.786.3520 or contact Davis Bakery directly at 804.301.3476.
