Contributors

Update: 4:36 p.m. Both westbound lanes of Interstate 64 have been reopened at the scene of an earlier truck crash at mile marker 103 in Albemarle County.

The left lane of I-64 eastbound remains closed as emergency workers continue working to remove the truck. Eastbound motorists should keep right and drive with caution when approaching and traveling past the crash scene.

Update: 3:15 p.m. The detour has been lifted and the right lanes have reopened to traffic in each direction on Interstate 64 following an earlier incident involving an overturned tanker truck at mile marker 103 on Afton Mountain in Albemarle County.

Emergency responders and the Virginia Department of Transportation are working as quickly as possible on crash recovery to accommodate rush hour traffic. Temporary traffic stops may occur as crews work to remove the overturned truck from the median.

Motorists are advised to keep right and use caution when approaching and traveling past the crash scene.

Traffic will be detoured off the interstate to use Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) as an alternate route. There is currently a backup of at least 2 miles in each direction.

An estimated reopening time is not yet known.
