Lugo (3-2, 2.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) went seven innings to get the win, giving up a run on six hits, striking out four without issuing a walk.
Nationals rookie Reynaldo Lopez (2-3, 5.52 ERA, 1.70 WHIP) only lasted four innings, charged with three runs on six hits, striking out three and walking one.
The win pulls the Mets (71-66) to eight and a half back of the Nats (79-57) in the NL East.
