Weather forecast shows increased wildfire risk
Officials with the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) advise that upcoming weather patterns increase the risk of wildfire across Virginia.
John Miller, VDOF’s director of resource protection, said, “Low humidity, high winds and low fuel moistures are all predicted for tomorrow and are expected to set up varying degrees of fire weather potential across the state.” A cold front passing through the state this afternoon is not expected to bring any more than light rainfall. Warm temperatures, low relative humidity and strong winds combine to increase wildfire danger.
A Fire Weather Watch is effect tomorrow for the entire state. Increased fire danger may upgrade the watch to a Red Flag Warning, issued when conditions are ideal for wildland fires to start easily and spread rapidly.
Virginia’s 4PM Burn Law is in effect until April 30. The statewide law restricts burning until after 4 p.m. each day.
