Virginia ABC stores now accepting smartphone payments

Virginia ABC store customers can now enjoy the convenience of making purchases using their smartphone. Customers who use Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and other Near Field Communications (NFC) technology-enabled apps can simply wave their mobile phone near the secure credit card terminal at checkout, confirm payment and be on their way.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to improve our customers’ experiences,” said Chief Retail Operations Officer Jeff Reeder. “More people are replacing their wallets with smartphones, and contactless payments give our customers more payment options and greater convenience at checkout.”

Since July 2017, more than 27 million customers have visited Virginia ABC stores.

All 371 Virginia ABC stores across the commonwealth have updated their credit card payment devices to accommodate the new technology. This service is offered for free to Virginia ABC customers. Stores will continue to accept credit/debit cards, cash and gift cards at checkout.
