VDOT road-work report

The following is a list of VDOT highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks.

The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies.

Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations.

Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and sight distance work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 7.3 to 16.5, eastbound and westbound – Median Guardrail Installation Project. Single-lane traffic and shoulder closures, Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is Nov. 30.

 

Primary Roads

* Main Street (Route 60, Clifton Forge) – Smith Creek Bridge replacement project – Main Street, westbound from the intersection of Ridgeway Street to Commercial Avenue will be closed September 8, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Westbound traffic will detour onto Ridgeway Street. Ridgway Street, eastbound and westbound, will have two-way traffic during this time. Bridge construction will occur from September 19, 2011 to October 12, 2012. Main Street closed between Route 60/220 and Commercial Avenue. Detour signs through the area using Business Route 60 and West Ridgeway Street.

* Various roads – Brush cutting. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River Bridge and approaches from 1.46 miles south of Route 634 to 1.14 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013.

* Various roads – Patching and pipe installation. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

No closures reported.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe maintenance, patching and grading. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 57 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, shoulder work and sign post work, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ditch repair, sign work and rock removal from shoulders. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195.6 to 202.5, northbound – Truck climbing lane project. Route 716 – Road closure as part of I-81 Truck Climbing Lane project. Route 716 closed on July 24 from 2 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 39 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

*Route 252 (Brownsburg Turnpike) – Project at the bridge over Cedar Grove Branch. This location is 0.50 mile north of Route 712 (Decatur Road) and 0.98 mile south of Route 727 (Hyde Road). Bridge closed beginning June 13. Single-lane detour on temporary road next to the existing bridge. Traffic controlled by stop and proceed sign. Estimated completion is Aug. 2.

* Various roads – Pipe cleaning. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Pipe cleaning.  Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 666 – Waterline work. Road closed during daylight hours between Route 60 (West Midland Trail) to Route 670 (Borden Road) during daylight hours.  Closure begins on July 17 and will last approximately four weeks.

*Various roads – Rough surface machining, pothole repairs, pipe cleaning, and mowing. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 716 – Road closure as part of I-81 Truck Climbing Lane project.  Road closed under I-81 bridge.  Bridge deck work. Road closed on July 24 from 2 a.m. to 12 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 250 – Replacement of bridge over Crab Run in McDowell, from 0.01 mile east of Route 645 to 0.014 miles west of Route 654 (Doe Hill Road). Single-lane traffic with 14-foot width restriction and three-way traffic signal at Route 250 and intersection of Route 654. Flagger traffic control at various locations when needed. Work may take place 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 25 mph. Estimated completion is October.

* Various roads –Grass trimming around guardrails and paving repairs. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 600 (Upper Back Creek Road) – Paving repairs, weekdays.

* Route 604 (Valley Center Road) – Paving repairs, weekdays.

* Route 615 (Davis Run) – Rural Rustic Road paving project. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 619 (Botkin Hollow) – Rural Rustic Road paving project. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Ditch and shoulder repairs. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing and patching, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 97.1 to 106.4, eastbound and westbound –  On Tuesday, July 24 the scenic overlook at mile marker 100.2 will be closed. Afton Mountain Guardrail Project. Right shoulder closures, Sunday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.1 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, turf repair, ditch repair and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 209 to 248, northbound and southbound – Bridge deck maintenance on various structures.  Single lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday morning.

 

 

Primary Roads

* Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Route 340 – Delphine Avenue Project. Sewer line replacement and rebuilding roadway on east side of Delphine Avenue at intersection of 4th Street. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Bridge replacement from 0.12 mile west of Route 924 to 0.08 mile east of Route 11. New box culvert installation. Road closed at bridge, July 9 to 30, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.  Flagger traffic control..

* (NEW) Route 737 (Dryden Road) – Bridge replacement. Road closed at bridge.  Work zone is 0.72 mile west of Route 42 (Scenic Highway) to 1.05 mile east of Route 736 (Jennings Branch Road).  Detour: From bridge head east to Route 42 (Scenic Highway).  Detour is 3.3. miles.  Access to homes and property is provided throughout the project.  Work is July 30 from 7:45 a.m. to August 17.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 209 to 248, northbound and southbound – Bridge deck maintenance on various structures.  Single lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday morning.

* Mile marker 237.51 to 263.9, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, clean under guardrail, brush cutting. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Ramp delineator work at ramps at exit 251.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – Pipe installation from Route 865 (Gravels Road) to Route 963 (Windy Knoll Drive). Intermittent lane closures, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by pilot truck.

* Route 33, westbound (Rawley Pike) – Waterline installation at intersection of Route 726. Shoulder closed, weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Stone Spring Road – Erickson Avenue/Stone Spring Road Connector Project from Route 11 to Port Republic Road. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is spring 2013.

* Route 609 (Naked Creek Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 (Fleeburg Road, Page County) and Route 609. Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On May 22, the traffic pattern will shift from the existing bridge on Route 603 to a temporary bridge during construction of the permanent structure. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 726 (Erickson Avenue) – Waterline installation from Route 33 (Rawley Pike) to Harrisonburg City limits. Intermittent lane closures with flaggers controlling traffic, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* Route 1421 (Springbrook Road, Town of Broadway) – Replacement of bridge over Linville Creek from 0.275 miles west of Route 42 (South Main Street) to Route 42. Signalization upgrade at intersection of Route 42. Possible single lane closures controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion is April 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.4 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 603 (Fleeburg Road) – Naked Creek Bridge Project. Replacement work at the intersection of Route 603 and Route 609 (Naked Creek Road). Periodic temporary lane closures, daily, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is April 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, was permanently closed on May 23. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Mowing, pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 263.9 to 298, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, brush cutting and clean guardrail. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound and southbound – Bridge repairs on various structures.  Single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Friday morning.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Safety improvement project at 5628 Main Street in the Town of Mount Jackson. Work zone contains lane diversion.

* Route 211 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 623 – Back Road Project. Construction of new alignment Route 638 and Route 623. Daily blasting operations will occur. Traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to7 p.m. Estimated completion is fall 2012.

* (NEW) Route 720 (Wissler Road) – Bridge repairs at Meems Bottom Bridge located 0.3 mile west of Route 11.  Road closed to through traffic on July 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Patching, mowing and brush cutting.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and sign work. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Mile marker 313 to 315, northbound and southbound – In conjunction with the Route 657/Senseny Road Bridge deck replacement work. Shoulder closures and intermittent nighttime lane closures beginning Feb. 20 for installation of barrier for shoulder closures. Estimated completion is mid-August.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 7, eastbound and westbound – Close existing crossover at Route 656 (Morgan’s Mill Road). Left lane closed, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Aug. 4.

* Route 11 – Paving from West Virginia state line to Route1620. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot trucks, Monday to Saturday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Estimated completion is Aug. 3.

* (NEW) Route 37 – Paving on ramps at Route 50, Route 622, Route11. Lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Estimated completion is August 30, 2012.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 657 (Senseny Road, Winchester) – Deck replacement work on bridge over I-81 from Millwood Pike (Route 522/50/17) and Berryville Pike (Route 7). Single-lane traffic with 10.5-foot width restriction, controlled by temporary signals. Estimated completion is mid-August.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Paving operations.  Flagger traffic control, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.  Estimated completion is October 1, 2012.

* (NEW) Various road – Mowing, scraping and pipe replacement.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 7, eastbound and westbound – Install turn lane extensions at various crossovers from Route 635 to Route 660. Left lane closed, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Aug. 4.

* Route 7 Business (West Main Street) – Mosby Boulevard Project. Construction of Route 636/Mosby Boulevard extension and round about. Flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – Paving operations. Flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5p.m.  Estimated completion is October 1, 2012.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing and patching on various roads.

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* Mile marker 1 to 13, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and drain cleaning, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 298 to 300, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, ramp cleaning at exits 302 and 307, and drain cleaning. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Primary Roads.

* Route 522 – Paving from Front Royal Town Limits to Rappahannock County Line, paving operations, Monday through Friday, 8pm to 8am. Traffic to be controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle. Estimated completion is August 3, 2012.

* Route 340 – Paving from Front Royal Town Limits to Route 619, north and south, Monday through Friday, 7pm to 8am. Alternating lane closures.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 681 – Recreational access to Eastham Park. Pavement widening on Luray Avenue. Lane and shoulder closures, daily, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion is Sept. 28.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Patching.
