Staunton District Traffic Alert: Dec. 24-Jan. 4

road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
(UPDATE) Mile marker 9 to 29, eastbound – Right lane closures for guardrail repairs. January 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 16 to 17, eastbound – Left lane closure for guardrail repairs. December 26 from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS
(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Wednesday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.
(UPDATE) Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Wednesday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 50 to 51, eastbound – Left lane closure for guardrail repairs. December 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile marker 174 to 175, northbound – Overnight left lane closure for soil work, 9 p.m. December 27 to 5 a.m. December 28.
(NEW) Mile marker 184 to 175, southbound – Left lane and right shoulder closures for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. December 26 to 6 a.m. December 27.
(NEW) Exit 188A, southbound – off-ramp to Route 60 narrowed for guardrail repairs, 8 p.m. December 27 to 1 a.m. December 28.
(NEW) Mile marker 197 to 198, northbound – Overnight right shoulder closure for guardrail repair, January 3 from 12 midnight to 2 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 208 to 209, northbound – Overnight right shoulder closure for guardrail repair, December 28 from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 216 to 224, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane or right shoulder closures for guardrail repair at various locations, January 3-6 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Mile marker 221 to 223, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closed 24/7 through February 28 for ramp extension work. Occasional lane closures possible during overnight hours. Interchange ramps remain open.

Occasional flagger traffic control with delays of up to 15 minutes, possibly including weekends. Temporary signal controls traffic during non-work hours. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated project completion January 5.

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed through June 2019 for replacement of Hawksbill Creek bridge. Follow posted detours.
