road work transportationThe following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton District during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
(NEW) Mile marker 9 to 10, eastbound – Nighttime right lane closure for guardrail maintenance. December 17 from 9 p.m. to 11:30 a.m.
(NEW) Mile marker 16 to 17, eastbound – Overnight left lane closure for guardrail maintenance. December 18 from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Road closed for Jackson River bridge replacement between Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 666 (East Morris Hill Road). Follow posted detour. Estimated project completion summer 2019.
Route 3605 (South Durant Road/West Jackson Street), Covington – Flagger traffic control for utility work between Totten Drive (Frontage Road 203) and South Byrd Avenue. Weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through December 2018.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 46 to 45, westbound – Left lane closure for guardrail maintenance. December 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs and brush cutting. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64
Mile marker 93 to 96, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for sign installation and maintenance, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through December 21.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 97 to 95, westbound – Overnight left lane closures for bridge work over railroad and South River. December 17-18 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
(UPDATE) Exit 99, westbound – Off-ramp to Route 250 closed for guardrail repair, 11:30 p.m. December 16 to 6 a.m. December 17. Follow posted detour.
(UPDATE) Mile marker 100 to 99, westbound – Overnight left lane and shoulder closures for guardrail maintenance. December 16 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

INTERSTATE 81
(UPDATE) Mile marker 208 to 235, northbound and southbound – Daytime shoulder closures and nighttime lane closures for guardrail repair at various locations, December 18-21 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
(NEW) Mile marker 221 to 223, northbound – Overnight left lane closure for bridge railing repairs over Route 250. December 18-20 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Mile marker 221 to 223, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closed 24/7 through February 28 for ramp extension work. Occasional lane closures possible during overnight hours. Interchange ramps remain open.
(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures as needed for pothole patching at various locations.

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) – Closed to through traffic between Route 608 (Cold Springs Road) and Route 887 (Vance Lane) for roadway improvements. Residents, school buses and emergency vehicles have access. All other traffic uses posted detour route. Detour lifted during weather-related closures on Route 633/634 (Patton Farm Road). Estimated project completion December 21.
(NEW) Route 616 (Dam Town Road) – Flagger traffic control for tree removal between Route 777 (Knightly Lane) and Route 926 (River Bend Drive), December 17-21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81
(NEW) Mile marker 237 to 244, northbound and southbound – Overnight mobile lane closures as needed for pothole patching at various locations.
(NEW) Mile marker 240 to 237, southbound – Right lane closure December 17 from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. for emergency milling and paving. Southbound on-ramp from Route 257 at exit 240 also closed. Alternate route: Route 257 west to Route 11 south to Route 256 west to southbound I-81 at exit 235. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
(NEW) Exit 251, northbound – Off-ramp to Route 11 closed for pavement and soil testing, December 19-20 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Follow posted detour.
(NEW) Exit 251, northbound and southbound – Ramps narrowed to single lane for soil excavation. December 20 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 602 (East Point Road/Maryland Avenue) – Bridge rehabilitation over South Fork Shenandoah River at Page County line. Occasional flagger traffic control with delays of up to 15 minutes, possibly including weekends. Temporary signal controls traffic during non-work hours. Vehicle width restriction of 10 feet. Estimated project completion late December 2018.
(UPDATE) Route 650 (Power Dam Road) – Road closed through December 21 between Route 649 (Island Ford Road) and Route 650 (Three Springs Road) for bridge replacement over Stony Run. Follow posted detour route.

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 211 Business (West Main Street, Luray) – Road closed through June 2019 for replacement of Hawksbill Creek bridge. Follow posted detours.
(UPDATE) Route 340 Business (Stanley) – Flagger controlled traffic between Route 614 (Shuler Lane) and Route 636 (River Road) for bridge work over South Fork Shenandoah River, December 17-21 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 602 (Maryland Avenue/East Point Road) – Bridge rehabilitation over South Fork Shenandoah River at Rockingham County line. Route 672 (Hopewell Road) – Flagger traffic control for maintenance of bridge over I-81 at Exit 321 (Clearbrook), 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through December 21.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
