Mathers was recently recognized for outstanding safety efforts in the workplace. The Waynesboro, Va.-based construction company received the Safety Award for 12 months without an accident claim. Mathers was only one of two Mid-Atlantic businesses nominated by Amerisure Insurance Company for the policy calendar year of May 2014 – May 2015.
Mathers Environmental Health and Safety Director Ashley Gauldin said the Mathers team is committed to continuous safety in the workplace.
“Many companies focus on profit and productivity,” she said. “I am very proud of Mathers for recognizing that safety is a vital part of that scenario.”
She points directly to her colleagues for the success of Mathers.
“The true recognition for our success belongs to all of our employees, as they are the ones who have taken the tools our safety department has provided them and become a team who looks out for and learns from one another,” she said.
“This award is a great accomplishment for us, but truly, the biggest reward for us, is that our employees return home safely to their families every day,” Gauldin said.
Amerisure Insurance Company Senior Loss Control Consultant Shannon King was honored to present the award to the safety and management team at Mathers.
Safety leadership is defined as “the process of defining the desired state, setting up the team to succeed, and engaging in the discretionary efforts that drive the safety value,” he said. This boils down to “engaging and maintaining behaviors that help others achieve company safety goals.
“It was an honor and privilege to present the award to ownership and the safety and environmental health team,” King said.
