A talented booking agent learns to call in his favors. Since Richard Adams is his own booking agent, he used his network to bring a new level of talent to the Nov. 1 Richard Adams Variety Show. The 7:30pm performance is at WTA’s Gateway at 329 West Main in Downtown Waynesboro.
Using sympathy as his calling card, Richard convinced The Legendary Mr. Jefferson’s Bones (Trombone Quartet) to headline the show. The four professional trombone players play everything from Stars and Stripe Forever to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
Richard convinced his boss at Bridgewater College, “Professor” Larry Taylor to also grace his show. Dr. Taylor is chair of the music department at Bridgewater and is a master of storytelling and making classical piano accessible and understandable to the “Regular Guy”.
Then if that use of the network was not enough, Richard booked eleven-year old Kaitlyn Lobb while he was having his teeth cleaned by her dental-hygenist mother. Richard prides himself on being the first rung on the professional ladder for many of the Valley’s most talented young people from joke tellers to dancers. In keeping with his dedication to forwarding careers, Kaitlyn will make her debut as a professional magician at the Variety Show.
Elvis (aka Bob Lunger) has been a regular guest on the Variety Show. No one knows quite how Richard first managed to connect with Elvis or how he continues to communicate his invitation. But he did and he does. The result is that Elvis is rumored to return with a special cooking segment.
Richard has sought to extend his artistic reach in creating the Variety show. For November, he has moved into the visual arts and poetry. He engaged Jenny Pearl, a caricature artist. She will be drawing during the show and brought up on stage on occasion to show her work. In the same vein, Marsha Howard, Poet Laureate Wannabe of Waynesboro will have several enlightening original poems.
And of course, the usual “You can be a Professional Comedian”, “You can sound like a cat” and “You can be on a Talk Show” segments and other silliness will be on the show.
And did we mention Co-host Bill Martin. Rumor has it that Bill planning a coup and is trying to take over the show? Come and see if there is a fight.
The RAVS’ Talent Galore is at 7:30pm at WTA’s Gateway. Doors open at 7 pm. Tickets are $9.99 in advance and $12 on the day of performance. They may be purchased online at www.wtagateway or by calling the box office 540-943-9999. Remaining tickets will be available on the night of performance.
