Robert Hurt statement Obama’s fiscal year 2017 budget request

Chris Graham

robert hurtCongressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) today released the following statement in response to President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2017 budget request.

“The people of Central and Southside Virginia know that if we are truly serious about revitalizing our economy and building a stronger America for our children and grandchildren, we must put an end to Washington’s out-of-control spending.  A budget represents a vision that demonstrates our priorities for the nation and sets forth the choices that need to be made to responsibly allocate our limited resources to achieve that vision.  Once again, the President’s budget proposal indicates his priorities are not in line with the American people’s priorities.  Under his proposal, the national debt would more than double what it was when he took office.  It would also increase spending by $2.5 trillion and raise taxes by $3.4 trillion over the next ten years.  This budget, like others the President has proposed, will never balance — ever.

“In response to the President’s proposal, it is my hope that the House of Representatives and the Senate will work together to adopt a sensible budget that will promote robust job growth, eliminate reckless deficit spending, and guarantee our national security.  It is further my hope that the President will reevaluate the consequences of his proposal and join our effort to get our fiscal house in order.  Together, we can grow our economy and build a stronger America for our children and grandchildren.”
