Poll: Kaine leads Allen, Bolling, Warner look good in ’13 races

Chris Graham

A new Public Policy Polling survey of Virginia voters gives Tim Kaine a narrow lead over George Allen in this fall’s U.S. Senate race.

Kaine, a Democrat, has the support of 46 percent of Virginia voters, to 44 percent for Allen. The two-point lead is within the margin of error for the poll.

The PPP poll also shows Republican Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling faring better in the 2013 general election for governor than GOP nomination rival Ken Cuccinelli, the state’s attorney general. Bolling has leads over top Democratic contenders Terry McAuliffe (36 percent-33 percent) and Tom Perriello (38 percent-32 percent), while Cuccinelli trails McAuliffe (41 percent-37 percent) and only narrowly leads Perriello (39 percent-38 percent).

A Mark Warner run for governor in 2013 might make the contest for the nomination on the Republican side moot. Warner, currently a United States senator, would top both of the Republicans by 14-point margins (51 percent-37 percent over Cuccinelli, 49 percent-35 percent over Bolling).
