P. Buckley Moss print signing at Belle Grove Plantation

p buckley mossFamed Shenandoah Valley artist P. Buckley Moss has selected Belle Grove Plantation as a subject for her most recent painting, Spring at Belle Grove.

It depicts the Manor House with its row of redbuds in full bloom. The painting is available for sale through the King James Galleries (540-869-9025, www.kingjamesgalleries.com, 161 Prosperity Drive #104, Winchester, VA 22602).

There have been 250 limited edition prints produced from the painting. P. Buckley Moss will be at Belle Grove on Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for a print sale and signing. The print is 8 3/8” x 13 1/2”, $95 unframed and may be purchased at the signing or through the gallery.

“Mrs. Moss has such an evocative way of capturing the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, we are delighted that she selected Belle Grove as a subject,” said Kristen Laise, Belle Grove’s Executive Director.

In honor of the print signing on March 26, Manor House tour admission will be discounted to $5 for visitors 12 and older. There will be no charge for students 11 years of age and younger. Belle Grove members always receive free admission. Belle Grove Plantation is located off Route 11 at 336 Belle Grove Road in Middletown, Virginia 22645.

 

Gardening Workshops Series Begins April 24

Belle Grove Plantation and the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardener Association have teamed up to host a series of monthly lectures and workshops from April to October 2016. It is called “The Barn Series of Gardening Lectures & Workshops for the Shenandoah Valley Gardener” because many of the classes will be held in Belle Grove’s red, 1918 Bank Barn.

The lecture topics will be focused on home gardening and the environment. All the knowledgeable instructors are Master Gardeners. Each monthly session will include a lecture followed by a workshop where students will put to use new found ideas. Students will go home with creations that include decorated bird houses, starter gardens, samples of herbed butters and vinegars, good bug homes, miniature gardens, pressed flower art, and autumn wreaths or swags. Master Gardeners will earn two hours of educational training for each workshop attended.

Sunday, August 21, 2-4 pm, Gardening in Miniature/Fairies Love Broken Pots! – Family friendly class
Sunday, September 11, 2-4 pm, Preserving Garden Memories
Sunday, October 2, 2-4 pm, Autumn Wonders

Each class is $25 and all project materials are included. For family friendly classes, one adult and one child may register together for just $40. Registration for all seven classes is $125, which means two classes are free. Belle Grove Plantation’s 1797 Manor House and grounds are open from March 19 to October 30 on Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m. It is closed major holidays, including Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. From October 31 to December 1, Belle Grove will be open Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m.  From December 2 to 30 Belle Grove’s annual Christmas tours will take place Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m.  Additional information including the entire list of 2016 special events may be found at www.bellegrove.org/calendar.

Belle Grove Plantation is a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  Belle Grove is also one of the partners in Cedar Creek Belle Grove National Historical Park, which has a Visitor Contact Station at 7712 Main Street in Middletown to orient visitors to the park, more information is at www.nps.gov/cebe.
