NASE alerts entrepreneurs to options for choosing healthcare plan

AFP

As millions of Americans, including those in the small business community, consider their 2019 healthcare options, the National Association for the Self-Employed warns of the approaching deadline to enroll in a healthcare plan or change current plans.

The current open enrollment period ends on Saturday, Dec. 15.

“Millions of Americans, including many in the small business community, who have a healthcare plan as part of the Affordable Care Act have limited time to change their current plan, or choose a new one before the enrollment period ends,” said Katie Vlietstra, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs. “If you do not make changes by the Dec. 15 deadline, you may get locked into an unwanted plan. Now is the time to do your research and secure a healthcare plan that truly meets your healthcare needs.”

Small business owners, entrepreneurs and others in the individual marketplace can go to healthcare.gov and shop for coverage or choose to work with a registered agent or broker.

If you need in-person assistance in enrolling, free expert help is available by calling 1-800-318-2596 or online at localhelp.healthcare.gov.

“Our recent Small Business Roundtable post-midterm election poll clearly demonstrates the need for the 116th Congress to immediately focus on fixing the Affordable Care Act and tackling healthcare affordability and access continuing to plague America’s entrepreneurs. In fact, newly instituted rules allowing for greater flexibility in the use of Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA) — an issue for which the small business community has advocated for years — provides an example for the new Congress on how they can work together in a bipartisan way to offset rising healthcare premiums while strengthening the health care law,” concluded Vlietstra.

NASE recently published a guest opinion piece in The Hill outlining the ways Congress can work together on issues important to the small business community.
