As my tenure on Waynesboro City Council comes to an end, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the citizens of Waynesboro for allowing me to serve on Council, as well as the School Board. There is truly no higher honor than to serve as an elected official. It is my hope that I have served you well!

Waynesboro holds much promise. As a native, I have certainly witnessed many years of transition. Our population is growing and we are seeing increased retail and commercial development. The recent PGI expansion announcement gives us optimism that industrial growth is indeed still possible. Our downtown continues to boast new businesses and private investment. Strong leadership will be required to keep the momentum going.

Our city boasts natural resources that are truly treasures. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the river and our parks are attributes that will continue to draw residents and tourists alike.  Special events, such as the Fly Fishing Festival, will continue to exemplify what makes Waynesboro so special.

I would like to take this opportunity to applaud and commend each and every city employee for their daily contributions to the organization and our citizens. I can assure you that you will not find such dedicated and committed employees anywhere else. Our employees continue to take on more responsibility with decreased resources. They do so with a positive attitude and spirit. It has been an honor serving with all of our city employees. You make us proud!

I would also like to congratulate Mike Harris, Jeff Freeman, Kathe Maneval and Jeremy Taylor for their recent elections. Waynesboro is fortunate to have individuals that are willing to give so generously of their time and expertise for the welfare of our city. 

During my eight years of service to our city, I have been blessed with the support of so many people. Thank you for all you have done for me, the advice I have gotten, the opportunity to help you and most importantly, your friendships.

Finally, it has been such an honor and privilege to serve. I have learned a great deal about our city, its people and how to move forward into a prosperous future. It is my hope that our new Council will have the courage to plan and engage in work that charts Waynesboro’s future. These decisions are not easy. Your elected officials have the ability to shape our future and to take advantage of opportunities that may only come around once. My request to our citizens is to stay engaged and know that your voice matters. Democracy is a privilege.
